Candidates

As a member of the Medallion Leadership Society, I oversaw a project centered around increasing accessibility, and awareness for those who are differently abled, on campus. Were I to be elected to the Senate, I would do my best to expand on this project, and ensure that increasing accessibility remains one of the highest priorities of the University. I would work with the administration to improve and expand our current, aging ADA-mobility system, and make more places on campus truly accessible. As the captain of the University of Rochester’s Water Polo team and the former President of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, I have extensive experience working with the University, and am confident that I will be able to carry out the duties of the Senate and my project. I look forward to representing the Class of 2025!

My primary goal is to streamline student feedback systems in order to improve easy-to-miss issues that affect student life. Some examples of changes I would advocate for include improving dining prices, especially in Hillside, and adding a weekday green line. I would also advocate for increased financial and decision-making transparency at all levels of the university.

As a candidate for the university student senate, I am committed to ensuring our campus prioritizes equity and justice for all students. The recent expulsion of the four UR students represents an alarming overreach by the administration, rooted in discrimination and external influence. This decision not only silences dissent but has created a veil of fear on campus and undermines our community’s commitment to free expression and dialogue.
Student activism is a cornerstone of progress, and punitive measures against those who voice their concerns erodes the already little trust between students of color and the institution. The university’s response to the posters last semester exemplifies a troubling pattern of stifling dissent rather than addressing the institutional issues raised by students.
As your representative, I will work to pass a resolution condemning the administration’s actions and advocate for policies that support the rights of student activists. We must demand transparent and fair disciplinary processes that do not disproportionately target marginalized groups. Additionally, I would like to push for the creation of a student-led review board to oversee cases involving activism to ensure accountability and fairness.
Together, we can foster an environment where every student feels empowered to speak out against injustice without fear of retribution. Vote for me and I’ll make sure your voices are heard, as it’s far past the time the administration listens.

Student Organizations are the heart of campus life here at the University of Rochester. Having been on a variety of different Executive Boards here at UR, and listening to my classmates’ troubles, it seems a common frustration is a lack of transparency, and voice for their concerns. I want to help alleviate that– to be a voice for their concerns, to help them feel heard, and to help fix the issues they see. I want to engage in helping student organizations better achieve their goals, and to further a sense of campus community by doing so.

I am running for this position to make an impact on the University community with what little time I have left here. I seek this position not to fill a line on my resumé or otherwise improve my own personal prospects, but to serve my fellow students. As a Senator, I will work hard to to ensure that the student body has a voice in its student government, and orient my position within the Student Association under the knowledge that I work for the students and nobody else. The students deserve a voice in how the University at large functions, and certainly how their own student government functions. I will utilize the various leadership and interpersonal skills and experience I have attained as a student here for three years to tirelessly advocate for student perspectives and student voices. This is the purpose of student government, and that is my purpose as well.

University of Rochester Senior campaigning for the purpose of helping to improve student life overall. I am the current vice president of eSports at the University of Rochester and I wish to use the leadership and decision making skills from this position in order to help benefit the general student population.

As a senator, I would strive to make UR more sustainably focused at our dining halls. With the conveyor belt broken at Danforth, the amount of food waste is going to increase significantly so I’m going to attempt to get a pulper (essentially a compost machine) inside of Douglass dining hall. I can try and work diligently with waste management and dining services at UR and get this device to limit food waste at Douglass, Grab and Go, and possibly even Connection’s. I also believe that a food pantry that is readily available for students, especially those whose dining plan has run short or have circumstances that limit their options, should be on campus as well. The current pantry on campus is not well known and I will strive to remedy that. I will also continue and improve the garden by Gilbert hall so it will provide produce for residents nearby. Which would grant healthy options on this vegetable-scarce campus. While the garden is still new, it has the potential to be a plentiful investment for first year students in the quad.

We at the University of Rochester pride ourselves on our sustainability and green initiatives. If I can try and place initiatives in place like a pulper machine or even a better access to a food pantry on campus, I believe we would live up to those green expectations.

Clubs are an integral part of the experience at U of R, and in my time here, I’ve felt that they’re neglected, underfunded, and have overly dense and strict rules to adhere to. I hope to join the Senate to help alleviate some of the stress brought on by running and managing a club at U of R. The rules and lack of transparency make it incredibly stressful to run a club, coming from someone who has been heavily invested in and part of the leadership of multiple clubs. I hope to make small but meaningful changes to help at least one eBoard feel less stressed. Clubs can be amazing, but bureaucracy can kill my peers’ motivation to run them.

As a proud Palestinian-American and an advocate for justice, I am deeply committed to ensuring that student voices are heard and valued. Our university should be a space for open dialogue, where activism is encouraged, not punished. Yet, the recent expulsion of four students for their activism is a shameful attempt to silence those fighting for what they believe in. This is not just an attack on these students—it’s an attack on all of us who dare to demand change.

I am running for Senate because I believe in the power of students to create a more equitable campus and beyond. We deserve leadership that protects our rights, supports activism, and works tirelessly to amplify marginalized voices. As your representative, I will advocate for policies that uphold academic freedom, protect student activists, and hold our administration accountable for its actions.

Together, we can dismantle the barriers to justice, amplify the voices of the unheard, and reclaim our right to a campus that values courage over complacency.
