    Fellow Yellowjackets,

    This will be my last email to you as SA President.  I wanted to thank you for allowing me this great opportunity and say how much I’ve enjoyed all the work this past year.  I’m excited for what student government will bring in the future.

    For now, here are some events to round out the year.  Here’s also the link to the Dining Services Final Exam and Commencement schedule (.pdf) and a link to find library hours.

    Rochester Superintendent of Schools Brizard to Speak

    Wednesday, May 7, 6:00pm; Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library

    Did you know that only 53% of Rochester city public schools students graduate from high school?  Jean-Claude Brizard, the city’s superintendent of schools, will speak about reform of the city school system, and share his plans to increase retention and graduation rates.  A reception will be held in the Welles-Brown room after the event.  This event is sponsored by the Warner School.

    Join Student Government!

    Would you like to be involved in Student Government? We’re looking for highly motivated people to serve as Chairpersons for the Communications and Public Relations Committee, the Policy and Review Committee, the Projects and Services Committee, and Elections Committee for this upcoming school year, as well as Aides for all these committees.     Undergraduate Research Exhibition

    Thursday, April 17; 9-4pm; Hawkins-Carlson and Welles-Brown Room, Rush Rhees Library

    melioraSupport your friends, learn about research possibilities at the University, and enjoy talks, poster sessions, and the Professors of the Year Awards during the Undergraduate Research Exposition. Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research and the Students’ Association, the exposition will be held Thursday, April 17, in Rush Rhees Library. The day is divided into two sessions: morning session, 9 am- 12 pm, lunch at 12 pm followed by Professor of the Year Award distribution at 12.30 pm, and afternoon session from 1 pm to 4 pm. The poster presentations will be in Welles-Brown and the oral presentations will be held in Hawkins-Carlson. Lunch and Professor of the Year Award will be in Welles-Brown.

    SA Government is looking to elect a new President and VP, 3 2009 Senators, 3 2010 Senators, 3 2011 Senators, 5 At Large Senators, and 8 Class Council Representatives for the class of 2009, 2010, and 2011.  Remember EVERYONE CAN VOTE INCLUDING SENIORS!!

    So remember to have your voice heard and vote for who think will represent you student body the best. You can also see their platforms on The Hive (http://sa.rochester.edu), or in the latest issue of the CT. Find out what each candidate represents and the issues they want to focus on.

    Students’ Association Convention

    SA CONVENTION
    Wednesday, April 2, 5-6:30pm, Hirst Lounge
    The SA Government will be hosting a convention for the candidates to openly campaign.  Each candidate for all the positions will be at a table to discuss the issues and hand out materials to the voters.  There will be free food and raffle prizes for all who attend.  We encourage everyone to come to be able to meet the Candidates face-to-face and hear what they have to say.  Find out the insights to their platforms and ask them questions.

    PRESDIENT/VICE PRESIDENT DEBATE
    Wednesday, April 2, 6:30-8pm, Gowen Room
    Immediately following the Convention, the Presidential/VP candidates will debate the issues of the SA.  Hear this, lively, annual debate, and support your candidate.

    Election Interest Meetings, State of the SA Address

    Want to affect change? See yourself getting involved on campus? Then attend one of the following interest meetings for the upcoming elections!

    Tuesday, March 25th, 6pm in Wilson Commons 122
    Wednesday, March 26th, 9pm in Stackel Room
    Friday, March 28th, 3pm in Wilson Commons 122

    In order to run for an elected position, you MUST attend one of these interest meetings. The positions that are opening for the Students’ Association Government for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year are:

    President/Vice President
    Three Class of 2009 Senators
    Three Class of 2010 Senators
    Three Class of 2011 Senators
    Five Senators at-Large

    Class Councils for 2009, 2010, and 2011 are also looking for great leaders. But there are other ways to get involved, so come attend these interest meetings, and find out how.
