1976--            Linda and Millard Fuller found Habitat for Humanity International is founded in Americus, GA.

 

1979--            The first Habitat house in America is built.

 

1981--             There are a total of 14 U.S. affiliates and 7 international affiliates, and 342 Habitat houses have been completed.

 

1984--            Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, become Habitat partners.

 

1989--            Hurricane Hugo strikes South Carolina - all Habitat houses in the state survive.

1990--            Abilene, TX, becomes Habitat's 500th U.S. affiliate.

 

1991--             Habitat's 10,000th house is built. Also, Habitat's first all-women ­built house is completed in Charlotte, NC.

 

1992--            Hurricane Andrew strikes South Florida; all 27 Habitat houses in the Miami, FL area survive.

 

1993--            HFHI completes its 20,000th house worldwide during a 20-house blitz build in Americus, GA.

 

1994--            A devastating earthquake shakes Los Angeles, CA, and floods hit Georgia. All Habitat houses in both areas survive. The 1,000th U.S. affiliate, Nelson County HFH, Roseland, VA, is approved. HFHI completes its 30,000th house worldwide with the 30/30,000 Blitz Build in Americus, GA.

 

1994--            HFHI is named the 17th largest home-builder in the U.S. Jack Kemp helps build HFHI's fastest built house in 5 hours, 57 minutes, and 13 seconds in Pensacola, FL.

 

1995--            The University of Rochester founds its own campus chapter, working in conjunction with Flower City Habitat.

 

1996--            Habitat for Humanity begins building in its 50th nation, Romania.

 

1997--            Habitat celebrates 10 years of formal partnership with students through its Campus Chapters and Youth Programs Department.

1998--           Habitat for Humanity ranks as the 15th largest homebuilder in the U.S., according to a ranking done by "Professional Builder"        
   
                     magazine.

 

1999--            Millard Fuller receives the National Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service in the category of Greatest Public Service Benefiting the Disadvantaged. The house building record is broken yet again, this time by a construction crew in New Zealand. The Manakau HFH had appliances installed, sod laid and an inspector satisfied in three hours, 44 minutes and 59 seconds.

 

2000--           Habitat adds China, Samoa, and Singapore to their national affiliates. The U.S. Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 319, calling on the Senate to build two houses with Habitat for Humanity International around Washington, D.C.

 

2001--           Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, his wife Rosalynn, South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung and some 9,000 other volunteers gathered in six sites across South Korea, building 136 Habitat houses. HFH Guatemala dedicated its 10,000th house in El Rosario.

 

2003--           More than 10,000 students around the country are uniting to celebrate Habitat for Humanity's second annual HabiFest, the nationwide student-initiated day of advocating for affordable housing

 

2004--           Habitat reaches 100-country goal!

 

2005--            Habitat assisted an estimated 6,000 homes affected by the tsunami in Asia; also completed or began constructing more than 60 homes along the Golf Coast in response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

 

2009--        The U of R Habitat Chapter reaches it's goal of cosponsoring a house during it's 15 Year Anniversary of being a club!
