Creating the Feature in Solidworks[edit]

To create a Linear hole pattern in Solidworks, first create the first hole using the Hole Wizard. This hole should be dimensioned off relevant features and/or the Datumns.

Then use Linear Pattern to pattern this first hole in up to two dimensions, or create multiple holes by creating and dimensioning more points.

Ordinate dimensions can be used to locate holes in a linear pattern.

Alternatively, especially when two related high-tolerance holes are used, a single hole should be dimensioned off of the datumns, and the remaining holes in the pattern dimensioned off of this original hole. This serves to remove one level of Tolerance Stack-up between the two hole locations.
