We get the chance to learn about you through your applications, so its only fair that we tell a you little about us! 

All of our trip leaders have adequate certification in first aid for their respective trips as well as experience in the outdoors.  Furthermore, each leader has knowledge of the trails you will be hiking. 

Read on to learn more about each of the 2007 UR FOOT trip leaders!

   

Zoë Harrold ('08) grew up outside of Cleveland, Ohio.  She has completed her third year at the University of Rochester and is majoring in Environmental Science (BS).  In her freshman year at UR she Co-Founded the UR FOOT program with Vanessa Bergmann (who is now at Smith College).  She has served as both vice president and president of the Outing Club, UROC.

Her experience in the outdoors includes numerous multi-day canoe trips in Algonquin Park and Manitoba, Canada, two 6 day bike tours in North Carolina, and various hiking and backpacking trips. She spent the Spring 2007 semester in New Zealand studying environmental science. 

Zoë is certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR.  She will be leading the Mount Marcy trip with Steve Rosen.

Steve Rosen ('10) is a pole-vaulter on UR's indoor and outdoor Track and Field teams. He has a lot of experience in the outdoors, including 9 summers he spent as a camper and 1 summer as a CIT at Camp Chingachgook on Lake George. While at Camp Chingachgook, he hiked Grant and Dix and spent 2 weeks on a rock climbing excursion, where he climbed cliffs from the Otter Cliffs in Maine to some near Lake Placid, NY. During his summer as a CIT, he also had the chance to lead trips in the Adirondack Park around Lake George. Steve looks forward to leading trips as part of the UR FOOT program this August.

Margaret (Peggy) Mayo ('09) is a biomedical engineering student from Westborough, MA and member of the class of 2009 at UR. Peggy's outdoor experience includes backpacking, hiking, canoeing and kayak trips. She is also a big fan of swimming, running, biking, and any activity involving water. She has experienced the great outdoors in a good portion of New England and New York. She is a member of UR's varsity swim team and has experience with Grassroots, UR's on-campus environmental club, and UROC, the UR Outing Club. Peg also led the UR FOOT Waterfalls Tour in 2006. Peggy loves to go on outdoor adventures, and is spending the summer working at the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.

Peggy is certified in Wilderness First Aid. She will be leading the Phelps Mtn. Trip with Chris Jensen.

Chris Jensen ('10) is a rising sophomore from Nashville, TN, majoring in mechanical engineering. He is a member of the varsity swim team and the ultimate frisbee team. His outdoors experience includes backpacking and hiking in Tennessee, North Carolina, Colorado, Utah, British Columbia, and New England. Chris has worked on volunteer trail crews and is an avid mountain biker, rock climber and skier.

Chris is certified in Wilderness First Aid. He is leading the Phelps Mtn. trip with Peggy Mayo.

Erica Greenbaum ('10) is an American Sign Language major who enjoys the sciences and physical activity. Erica loves the outdoors, hiking, backpacking, biking, camping, rowing, swimming and all water-related pastimes, as well as many other activities. She has been on many camping, hiking, canoeing, biking and climbing trips. As a former URFOOT participant, Erica is enthused about sharing her experiences in New York state parks with the class of 2011.

Erica is certified in First Aid and CPR. She will be leading the Waterfalls Tour with Andrew Flack and Doug Butler.

Hi I'm Doug Butler ('10) and I'm a history and philosophy major from Maine. I play ultimate frisbee, and being from Maine, I spend a lot of m y time outside. I also play bass and sing in the a capella group After Hours here on campus. That's pretty much all about me. Keep on keepin' on.

Doug is certified in First Aid and CPR. He will be leading the Waterfalls Tour with Erica Greenbaum and Andrew Flack.

Andrew Flack ('09) is from Rome, NY. Andrew will be a junior, majoring in biomedical engineering with a concentration in biomechanics. Being from Central New York, Andrew has spent a lot of time in the Adirondack Park, enjoying many of the short day hikes that this area has to offer. In the summer, Andrew can generally be found near the water with friends, either water-skiing or wakeboarding, exploring the Fulton Chain of lakes, or running the Boilermaker Road Race. He also enjoys biking and rowing crew.

Andrew is certified in First Aid and CPR. He will be leading the Waterfalls Tour with Erica Greenbaum and Doug Butler.

 

Hi I'm Derek Crowe, a BME major and member of the class of 2009. Before college, I was an active member of the Boy Scouts and got to experience Philmont and many other camps around the US and Canada. Besides camping, I have a lot of other interests, mostly nerdy science stuff, as well as in other organizations at U of R. This is my first year with UR FOOT and I look forward to working with everyone!

Derek will serve as on-campus liaison during the summer and business manager for URFOOT.
