About
The purpose of the Wado-Ryu Karate Club is to teach traditional Wado ryu karate to all interested members of the University community, regardless of gender or level of previous experience. Wado Ryu Karate was founded by Hironori Otsuka (1892-1982). It is now recognized as one of the major styles of karate (along with shotokan, goju-ryu, shito-ryu and kyokushinkai). The word "wado" literally means "the way of peace/harmony". As a style of karate it is lighter than the Shotokan style, from which it was born, incorporating movements and thinking from ju-jutsu and kendo. Our club is affiliated with the Canadian Wado-Ryu Karate Federation (CWKF) -- Wado-Ryu is SA funded -- |
