Welcome

Introduction

We're the University of Rochester's men's Ultimate Frisbee team. Ultimate is an exciting, fast-paced sport, played with a flying disc. At the University, we are a competitive, funded club sport, and we compete against other College and Club teams, mostly throughout the northeast U.S.. We are not a varsity sport, and we demand little in terms of time, yet still provide ample opportunity to improve. If you are a young athelte and would like to know more come to the practices when you can or sign up for our mailing list.

To sign up for the mailing list, send an email to majordomo@mail.rochester.edu and include the line subscribe ultimate in the body of your message. You will recieve a reply in a few minutes that you must reply back to. Then you can post to the mailing list.

More Information about Ultimate

Ultimate borrows some ideas of soccer and football but that's totally different. The sport, including its 10 most basic rules, is best described here. At a highly competitive level, Ultimate is one of the world's second most aerobically strenuous sports (along with soccer and water polo), and so it can be the most fun and exciting way to get in, and stay in, shape. Ultimate can also be laid-back. Any of the Piggies can tell you that a typical practice might involve chasing the disc until you're sick, but that it will also involve tossing the disc around casually while heckling your teammates. Ultimate can also be a lifestyle: playing is so fun, and getting better so addicting, that most people are hooked after a few practices and/or scrimmages. "Play Ultimate: Understand the Obsession!"

Things like practice attendance, and running once you're there are, technically, optional. That being said, we all have victory. We compete in the UPA's Upstate New York / Metro East section and region, respectively. The ultimate goal is the national championship and so we are looking for young athletes who can (eventually) be dedicated to winning. We're looking for players who want to get in shape, have fun, and ultimately win at tournaments. You don't have to already be excellent with a frisbee. Guys who are born handlers are great, but we ultimately need athletes; the throwing skills will come (faster than you'd think!) with practice. Former players of other sports are common in ultimate: ex-soccer, -football, or -whatever players often make the best , in mind, pigs
