VietNight - 17 September
This event was organized by the Vietnamese Students Association. Members of Tiernan turned out in force, as a group of about 20 of us went. Our favorite activities naturally revolved around the food activities: we made our own sushi, dumplings, and spring rolls. All of these were of course incredibly delicious. In addition to the food, we also learned from Uyen how to play a Vietnamese card game of uncertain name.
Asocksination - 27 September to Last Man Standing This game is our own twist on popular Assassins. Here's how it works: everyone who wants to play pays $2, and is given the name of a person they are to "kill". Eventually, only one person is left alive, and that person receives half of the pot from the fee sarah and pam duke it outto play (the other half goes to Tiernan as a fundraiser). After a game of approximately 2 weeks, Sarah Coulter won, all other 15 contestants having been killed. In other words, Sarah Coulter is now known as the champion of stalking all people on (and off) the hall. Beware.
What Not To Wear Party - 7 October Beginning as an excuse for Jill to wear a beautiful new dress and critique other people's fashions, our party had numbers of Tiernanites wearing grossly exaggerated gross clothing. Look closely at the left, and you can see Jill and Seth's horrified expressions clashing with their fancy clothing. Although the competition was very close, the Best in Show (or worst dressed) award went to Anna Shapiro.
To celebrate the end of apple season in New York, we went out to an apple orchard to get more apples than any person could posssibly eat (one person, ten pounds of apples - you do the math). One of the most amusing parts of the day was when, in order to get access to higher apples, Seth bravely climed onto Brian's shoulders in a human ladder to share the apple goodness.
Millard Fillmore Remembrance Day - 29 January Your favorite 13th President of the United States and mine. In honor of this under-celebrated historical figure, we will have a themed paired potluck and then visit the Wow! Factory at Adventure Landing. This is a huge room with three tiers of landings and some thousand small foam balls for us to throw at each other. There's also a slide going down all three stories and various fun apparati with which to aim said foam missiles.
Have a book you just can't wait to share with someone else? Want a book to read for fun in your (nonexistant) free time? Just interested in the kinds of books your fellow Tiernanites enjoy? The Book Swap will take place after the usual Tiernan meeting. Bring a book to share; you can give on loan or for keeps, it's your choice. |
