| Every
in-house member of Tiernan goes through the Retention process. In order
to return to Tiernan the next year, all memebers must complete the
retention requirements and interview. Tiernan has its own housing lottery and, in addition to retention projects, participation in dorm and community service activities as well as a retention interview at the end of the year will determine your rank in the room selection list at the end of the year. Contact our Retention Chair with any questions. Retention Timeline All in-house members must participate in at least five Tiernan Project events each semester they live with the Tiernan Project; at least two of these must be a community service events (the other three may be community service or social events). If any member cannot meet these requirements, they have the option to complete a Retention Project. To do this, he or she must organize and implement a Social or Community Service event for Tiernan, in which other members of the Tiernan Project can participate Also, we encourage all member of the Tiernan Project to develop their own Retention Projects as a way to learn about organizing community service and to be more active with the hall. For a description of good Retention Projects, please contact the Retention Chair. Retention Points (year-round) By participating in Tiernan events, members accumulate Retention Points. Every Tiernan event (Social and Service) is assigned a certain number of Retention Points based on a) whether the event is Social or Service and b) how involved the event is. The more events a member participates in, the more points he or she will accumulate, and the better position in the housing draw he or she will receive. This is our little reward for being so nice as to volunteer your time to community service. Retention Points may be earned for community service events outside of Tiernan. Points are also assigned based on the Retention Project. Retention Interviews (late March) Returning and prospective members are required to attend a 10 minutes interview. These are pretty infomal. You will be asked by the Retention Chair and one other member of the exec board about what events you like/dislike, how you plan to make time to meet the requirements, and what your schedule is like so we can plan events you can make. Room Draw (March 29th) The Tiernan Room Draw occurs before the ResLife housing lottery every year. Tiernan currently is allocated the second floor of Burton, on the Residential Quad. Room Draw works as follows: every retaining member picks a room on the floor, with the person having the most Retention Points picking first, then proceeding in order. Currently we have 35 slots for members, 19 in singles and 16 in doubles. |
