Rush

WHAT IS RUSH?

Rush is a time for girls interested in joining SYZ to meet the active sisters and learn more about the sorority. This is your chance to ask any questions you ever had about SYZ, pledging, or sorority life in general. Rush is completely nonbinding. In other words, there is absolutely no pressure to commit to or join SYZ when you rush. Every sistership conducts rush at least once a school year. Rush period lasts anywhere from one week to three weeks, depending on each school. Please note that all of Sigma Psi Zeta’s rush events are dry.

Rush is a chance for you get to meet sisters and see what the organization is all about, and at the same time, we get to know you a little better as well. There are no binding obligations -- come to meet new people and have fun!

AFTER RUSH, THEN WHAT?

In general, each sistership will require women interested in joining SYZ to attend a certain number of Rush events and one General Interest Meeting (GIM). After rush, most sisterships will invite rushees who have met the rush requirements for an interview. SYZ does require a minimum GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale and you must not be a member of another general national college sorority. At the end of the rush process, sisterships will extend BIDS, an invitation to join SYZ. If you receive and accept this bid, the pledging process will begin soon after.

WHAT IS PLEDGING?

During this time, pledges participate in activities that build leadership and sisterhood with their fellow pledge sisters and the active sisters. The entire process of pledging is dry. SYZ strictly follows the University and our own National rules against hazing and the mistreatment of pledges. In SYZ, we DO NOT haze our pledges.

COSTS

All pledge fees are used for pledging materials and events for you and your pledge class. In general, the pledge fee for the entire pledging process is the same nationally. Please check with the SYZ sistership at your school. Please do not let costs inhibit your decision to rush and/or pledge. All sisterships have payment plans and will work with you to make your pledging experience possible.
