Who We Are
|
So how did the Stingers come to be and who actually makes up such an interesting group you may ask? Well let me tell you. Many years ago back in the mid-1990s the Stingers were originally founded by John Hendron. He became the Stingers' Admiral and stayed in power for a number of years. During that time the Stingers were a force to be reckoned with on campus. They played many shows, sometimes for charity, and had recognition in both the Campus Times as well as the Democrat and Chronicle. Unfortunately for unknown reasons the Stingers faded from existence for a number of years. Then in 2003 a new ruler took the reigns. One David Lu!! reformed the Stingers and ruled as Emperor for four years. The new Stingers were not the same as the Stingers of old though. No one knew who they were and did not know how to respond to an all trombone band. Nevertheless the Stingers played on, often serving as opening entertainment for groups such as the After Hours A cappella group. But the Stingers still do not have the renown of the Stingers of the 90s despite their best efforts. We, the current ruling parties, are trying to change that. We now have numbers higher than in years past. Our best talent comes from our new freshman members. In the years to come the Stingers will truly be a force to be reckoned with!! |
By now I am sure that you would like to meet the Stingers, so let me introduce them to you.
First let me give you our ruling parties for the 2007-2008 year:
Our Powerful and Just Emperor: Diane Panagiotopoulos, Class of 2008
The incredibly tall Secretary of War, known far and wide across the campus: Gerald Abt, Class of 2008
The Formidable Shadow President: Ben David Aronson, Class of 2007, Take Five
And your host and guide through this Stingers world, The Dragon: Matt Mavissakalian, Class of 2008
We are but those in charge of this most interesting group. We four are the most senior members, but we are nothing without the rest of our group:

The Stingers have no auditions and welcome anyone who can hold a trombone correctly to come and play with us. Our practices are on Sundays at noon. They take place in the practice room one floor above MIF, at the top of Wilder building. Feel free to contact any one of the officers above or just stop by if you want to play.
