Rosie Cardoso

Introducing your class council candidate, the woman, the myth, the legend - ROSIE!!!!
Rosie was born in Portugal and she moved into the United States in 2006.  Rosie is outgoing, friendly, creative, talented and a natural “people person”.  Rosie worries about her peers, she will listen to their suggestions as well as to their complaints.  This council candidate will be always there for you and she will give you the advice when needed.  Rosie’s strongest believe is that a true community comes only when we embrace our differences.
To summarize, Rosie doesn’t have time for charming her way through the political process, she only has time for you!  Stop the nonsense and inefficiency- VOTE  ROSIE!!!

Erin Carroll

Hi Class of 2013! My name is Erin Carroll, and I hope to become a member of our class council. All the changes we are facing as freshman can be exciting, but also scary at times. For many of us we have more freedom than ever before. We have free time, we no longer face frequent check ins with Moms and Dads, and we have little cards that will buy us anything our hearts desire. At a glance, this appears to be a pretty fabulous set up. My goal as a member of Class Council would be to build a community for us to enjoy this freedom together. To have fun, create memories, and build lifelong friendships. A community that helps to ease the anxieties that come with so much change, and a place where programs, events, and activities provide frequent opportunity to come together as a class. We’re all experiencing the good and not so good feelings that come with freshman year of college. Why not experience this together? The class of 2013 is an incredibly unique, talented and diverse class. We all have so much to learn from each other. I hope to help each and every individual in our class harness this amazing opportunity. I’d like it easy for all of us to learn from each other and grow together.

Kyle Coapman

My name is Kyle Coapman and I am campaigning for a position on class council. I am unresolved on what major I will declare; however, I have a strong interest in the fields of psychology, economics, mathematics, and physics. I love to play all different sports from lacrosse to Frisbee. The music I listen to most is by an artist named Buckethead (if you’ve played Guitar Hero II, you are familiar) and favorite movie without a doubt is Gladiator. In terms of service, I have been on two mission trips to the Dominican Republic Domestically, I have helped on eagle projects, run sound board for church events, and participated in my high school’s service club. So, why run for executive board? First off, one decision I made entering college was that I will get involved in as many ways as possible. Additionally, I want to help bring the class of 2013 together with some sweet events. First off, I think that a campus wide game capture the flag, man hunt, or laser tag would be awesome. Also, I think that everybody could use a massage before finals or maybe a comedy event to ease the nerves. In the past I have held leadership positions as a peer leader, a youth leader at my church, and captain of intramural sports. Additionally, I believe a class online forum or “thinktank” would be a great measure for uniting the class and also bringing great ideas to life that may be lost without such a system. Finally, I believe that a class service project with everybody performing separate small tasks would be an incredible way for the class to get involved in the city of Rochester. In conclusion, I ask you for your vote for a class council position.

Michael Dymond

Hey guys. I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you a bit about me. My name is Michael Dymond and I am from the great city of Albany, New York. I am majoring in math and plan to become a high school teacher eventually. I enjoy watching and playing sports, traveling to different places, and of course, my favorite singer, Neil Diamond. I’m running for class council for a few reasons. I enjoy getting to know people and contributing to what I believe in. I think it is important for students to have the voice of their class and I would like to be that voice. As a council member, I hope to plan events which will bring everyone together as the class of 2013. We’ll certainly do some food-based activities where there will be plenty of free food; maybe some late night breakfasts. Also, I would hope we could do some Saturday afternoon events where we have fun and innovative plans to allow for some relaxation and downtime; possibly a performance on the quad by the Midnight Ramblers or a sports tournament between different student teams. As your representative I would welcome any and all suggestions and gladly enact them. You would definitely be able to see me around campus and tell me anything at any time. Hopefully I’ll do great in the role and you’ll be happy with your selection. So, on that note, I’ll sign off and let you vote for Michael Dymond.

Griffin Gyr

Hello, my name is Griffin Gyr and I am running for a position on the 2013 Class Council. In case you haven’t had the opportunity to get to know me face to face, let me tell you a little about myself. I am living in Sue B Gates 4, and am planning on double majoring in political science and economics. I like to keep busy and particularly enjoy playing basketball and poker. I am also ambidextrous, don’t have a middle name, and once had an internship under State Senator Cathy Young. Now that were familiarized, let me tell you why you should vote for me. At my high school I held several leadership positions, two of them being class treasurer and captain of the track and field team. These two positions taught me a lot about how to effectively communicate and interact with different people and their problems. Whether I had the fun of explaining to the Superintendent that our fundraiser didn’t raise enough money or I had to encourage a frustrated freshman to keep working on their hurdling form, effective communication was the key. As a leader in any field or organization you have to be able to be able to communicate with those who rank above you and those below you in order to make something work. Although the leadership challenges that one faces as a member of a college class council are much larger in scope than those that a high school leadership position presents, the skills and type of person necessary to deal with them are the same. As I’ve come to realize in my short time here and I’m assuming you have too, the University of Rochester is a great campus, and with your help I will make it even better.

Katie Lam

Hi my fellow classmates, I am Katie Lam. I am eager to run for class council because this is a great opportunity to get to know and serve everyone in my class! I love getting involved with different kinds of activities. During the24 hour play festival, I had the pleasure to meet and collaborate with fabulous writers and actors. I directed a play named “The Intruder”. It turned out to be a great show! I never had any directing experience before, but I was willing to try and learn. And I had tons of fun! From my first directing experience, I learn that it is important to listen to others and to be readily adjusting in order to get the best collaborative work. Also, I used to be a treasurer in my high school and I helped planning activities with other class committees in the past. These experiences prepare me to take the chance to be a class council member. It is essential for everyone gets to know each other in our class and thus to appreciate the diversity. Thus, I think the responsibilities of a council member are to listen to ideas with an open-mind, to organize well-planned activities and, most importantly, to help build a vivacious spirit in our class. I am a type of person who is determined, loves to share my thoughts, work with different people and have fun! I am so thankful to have this opportunity to run for class council and I hope I can have your support! Good luck and enjoy this upcoming year!

Min Kyung (Rachel) Kim

Hafa Adai and Hello everyone. My name is Min Kyung (Rachel) Kim and I came from Saipan. For those of you who don't know GOOGLE it up! It’s a SMALL island next to Guam. It’s only a little bigger than the CITY of Rochester. I was in the plane for 24 hours to get here. Saipan is summer all year long, so my coming here, I am risking my LIFE to survive during winter here at UOR. I don’t have golden hair, emerald eyes, or a U.S. passport. I still have a LOT to learn here, but with courage, I am running for a position in your class council. I believe that being in the class council does not mean that I get to decide and let everyone follow me. I believe that it is about our class getting together to fill eachother’s needs. It is true that I lack many things. I don’t want to embellish this platform trying to state things that I have done. But rather, I would want to ask for your help to fill my weaknesses and carry out our class of 2013 together. It took me a lot of courage and effort to make it to University of Rochester. Now, I want to try something new. I have never had a chance to challenge myself in Saipan. However, with all of your support, I know that I can experience something new. But this isn’t just about my having a new experience. I can bring a lot to the table. Because I come from an island with great diversity, I am able to accept differences of everyone. I am ready to listen and serve all of you. Please reach out your hands for me and allow me to serve in your class council Thank you!

Nicholas Lewandowski

Hey class of 2013, my name is Nick Lewandowski. My belief is that the responsibility of a person on Class Council can be broken down into two fundamental parts. First, Class Council must develop the bond between the students within their class. Walking through your particular hall, I’m sure by now you are pretty comfortable with the people around you. However, how well do you know the people in other halls, other floors, or even other buildings? I feel that in an academically rigorous college such as this, it is easy to get caught up in studies, and to simply stay with your close group of friends that you got to know through the week of orientation. However, by doing that we miss out on the hundreds of other talents and personalities we walk by everyday but never take the time to get to know. That is why, if elected I plan on fostering a strong bond between our students, by organizing plenty of activities and events to promote spirit and unity. The second responsibility of Class Council is to connect our students to the community. With such a talented class, there are hundreds of ways we can help the city of Rochester. It is my goal to not only organize events and service activities of my own, but to also present Class Council as an organization where students can come to and present their own ideas for the community if their goals are simply too big, or involved for one person to handle. In addition, I hope to plan local trips so that our class can also enjoy in return what our new community has to offer. I feel that I have the communication and leadership skills necessary to serve as this liaison between our class and the community.

Justin Lukoff

College is a world of new oppurtunities. There is so much to do and so many things to experience. We have so much to explore and so much to discover in our next few years here at the U of R. My plans are not only to bring the class together, but to ensure that every person gets close to their wishes. People should vote on a person that they can depend on and someone they can also look up to. I will do my outright most to make sure that people walk around on a daily basis with a huge grin across their face. And yes, the winter will not be easy here, so having someone to plan and brainstorm events is vital, especially when you think it is too cold to do anything! I not only want to be apart of an enthusiastic committee, but I want to excercise my creativity to ensure that everyone is satisfied! I will be open to everyones thoughts, and understanding if something goes wrong. The Class of 2013 is destined for greatness, and I assure you I will put in 110% in everything I do! Go Rochester and be ready to start your college life right now! Don't be a goof-off!, VOTE FOR LUKOFF

Melissa Martin

In running for Class Council I realize there are quite a few responsibilities and challenges at hand, including planning events for our class, developing a fervent spirit within our brilliant community of classmates, and making our experience at Rochester as complete as possible.  With this, I must tell you all how eager I am to accept these responsibilities and build on them. In years past I helped create an organization at my school called "The Arts Council.” On this council, we planned activities that showcased artists in my school, researched other artists and organized other arts events. We helped inform and involve as much of our community as possible in the wonderful world of the Arts! This experience has more than laid the foundation for me to dive into the chance to be a part of our Class Council at Rochester. I believe that in order to be successful, school needs to involve all of us and offer us a chance to excel in what we enjoy doing, to understand our strengths as well as our weaknesses and to take advantage of all the opportunities we have at Rochester. I must tell you all that I am thrilled to have this opportunity and am the type of person who readily adjusts, manages responsibly, and loves to help organize things. With this, I wish you all the best of luck in the upcoming year and hope that you will put your confidence in me and allow me to be a part of our sure-to-be stellar Class Council.

Tolulope (Lupe) Ogunbor

Hello Freshman Class of 2013,
My name is TOLULOPE LUPE OGUNBOR from Queens, New York and I would like to be a part of the Class Council for the Class of 2013. I believe that you should vote for me because I would create a unified Freshman class that is fun filled for all. Being a part of many student activities and governments in high school, I believe that I would assert a new perspective towards the Class Council role. As you all know, studying for exams in our various classes, not sleeping until three in the morning or even watching our favorite team on T.V. get beat by a rival can be extremely stressful. As part of the Class Council, I would try to lower the stress that the Freshman class will soon come to face. I would try and plan trips to the zoo or museum where only the Freshman class could attend or even have a one-week boat cruise before or after exam periods. I would also take all opinions from the freshman class and build it towards having a better year at the University of Rochester. Thank you for your time and have a great day. Vote Lupe. Youll have a better day. Okay?

Anish Patel

Hello fellow classmates of the Class of 2013. My name is Anish Patel and I am running for a position on the Freshman Class Council. To talk a little bit about myself, I am from a typical town in New Jersey, just fifteen minutes from NYC. I enjoy watching movies, playing all types of sports, and basically just hanging out with my friends. I wanted to attend a college with a strong science curriculum because I have the intention of majoring in Chemistry and I found the university to not only fit the criteria but provide me with so much more. Each and every day of the two weeks of my time at Rochester has been a new and exciting experience. I was able to start classes, but also enjoy myself, meet so countless people, and make so many friendships. As I introduced myself from one person to another, I began to realize that these individuals were going to be the people I was going to share the next four years with. The ups, the downs, and the exciting moments, we were all going to go through it as the Class of 2013 here at Rochester. As a member of the Class Council, I want to be able to make the journey for my classmates as easy, enjoyable, and fun as possible. I have been part of the student council in my high school in previous years, so I do have the experience. I understand the responsibilities that I will have if elected, and I will work to the best of my ability to fulfill my duties as a council member.

Brandon Podyma

My name is Brandon Podyma, and I am a freshman living in Holli 329 of Sue B. I’m running not for the benefits of this post, but rather for the opportunity to give all I can to the UR. I strongly believe that the multitude of talents and interests possessed by every student needs to be embraced and emphasized. Come to me with your ideas, come to me with your problems, and I will do my very best to resolve any issue. My background ranges from organizing events such as a dodge ball tournament, connecting with administrators on student policies, being a leader in my high school, as well as being class valedictorian. My motivation is the character and attributes of all the people that I have met in these first few weeks, and my goals in this position are to give back in every way that I can, and to repay the generosity of all those we have met along our path. If you decide to cast your vote for me it will be a vote worthy of the reputation of the UR. And if you don’t, I will continue to work, as I am sure we all will, towards making the University of Rochester ever better. Thank you.

Jonathan Richardson

Hello, my name is Jonathan Richardson and I believe I should be elected into the University of Rochester’s Class of 2013 Council. I am from Syracuse, New York and live over in Gilbert 2. As everyone knows, there are many freshmen in this year’s class and of course not everyone knows everyone. There are still many people I see out wandering the quad or inside of Danforth and Douglass that I still haven’t yet to meet. This is the time of the year to meet as many people as possible within our Rochester community, and make this place feel like our new home. I believe I can help you all feel like you are at your new home. My past experience involving in student government goes back to middle school when I was elected into my school’s student council. Every year since then I have been elected into Student Council and my senior year I serve as an officer helping bring together my school community. I can do the same here if I am elected. I have lots of experience planning events and coming up with fun ideas that cater to the whole class. I am a rational person that listens to the smallest voice and giving one for those who need one. I truly expect to work to the best of my ability to make this year and hopefully the years to come as well amazing and memorable for every freshman of Rochester. I strongly urge all of you to vote for me for this position and I honestly will not let you down. I have been a leader for my class before and I plan to do it again if I am elected for you Class of 2013 Council.

Tiffanie Tam

Hi Class of 2013! My name is Tiffanie Tam and I am running to be your class council this year. I am from Bellevue, Washington—2,700 miles from here, 2,700 miles from home! Did I feel lonely in my single dorm room? Did I cry because of homesickness? No! The U of R makes me feel right at home because of my fun-loving peers. They gave me a sense of home far more than just the decorations of photos or my favorite mug with the “I love Seattle” logo. I want to bring everyone together; I want you too to feel that you truly belong to the Class of 2013 at the U of R.
I served as the President of the DECA chapter at my high school where I planned meaningful and charitable events such as carnivals and cultural fairs for the Children’s Hospital and Cancer Lifeline. I was also the store manager at my high school’s student store and I organized promotions and other marketing activities.
With my enthusiasm to serve as your Class Council and your passion for exciting events, we will have a blast this year!
Vote for Tiffanie Tam for Class Council and we will kick off this year with a Bowling Night, Paintballing Trip, Skydiving Trip, and many more!

Paul Vergara

Hey Class of 2013! I’m Paul Vergara, and I’m fierce. I hate all of those frilly platforms about how driven and responsible a candidate is, so I refuse to write one like that. I will, however, write a platform about how I am ferocious. Just look at me. If you haven’t seen me, you probably weren’t looking hard enough. Yes, I am 5-foot-2, but I’m pretty sure that I’m very hard to miss. If you haven’t seen me, you have probably heard me either yelling across campus or belting some ridiculous tune. Anyway, I don’t like people who are too serious about things, but I can tell you right now that I have the right amount of seriousness to get the job done, have fun while doing it, and not be obnoxious about it. Obnoxious people are hot messes. And no me gusta hot messes. So… Right. I’d truly appreciate your vote. I hate clichés, but you must make your voice heard, and I will help facilitate that by any means necessary. I may have a catty, stanky, New York attitude, but it makes me all the more tenacious. I don’t mess. So vote for me, Paul Vergara, for a fabulous 2013 Class Council.

Jessica Weber

My name is Jessica Weber and I think I'd be a great candidate for our Class Council because I have several years of experience organizing and planning class and school-wide events from high school. Throughout my time in high school I was elected to student government. I was an instrumental part in planning my junior and senior proms along with several charity events and school-wide competitions. I'm open to everyone's ideas, and based on the Conflict Seminar we all attended ;-) I am a collaborating owl. I always look for ways to satisfy everyone's wants and needs in the most productive ways possible. I’m a big fan of meeting new people and I think everyone should get a chance to expand their friendships throughout our class and the university. I look forward to planning fun and exciting class-wide events that everyone will enjoy such as a ski trip to a nearby resort, hall competitions, and a dinner to help out a local Rochester charity. So vote for me, Jessica Weber, and I promise there will be plenty of fun and unique events this year for us to enjoy.
