Last night, the Students’ Association Senate passed a resolution endorsing proposed construction of green space on the brick plaza outside of Meliora Hall.
President Patel and I have been working with Campus Planning, Design & Construction Management officials to identify “dead space” on campus; outdoor locations that could use some serious improvement. Together, we’ve drawn up a plan that would add grass, trees, and sitting walls in front of Meliora Hall, making the area much more hospitable to student life.
The proposed construction would start and finish during the upcoming summer of 2013, causing minimal inconvenience to the lives of most students.
Construction officials will submit this proposal for approval through the University Capital Budgeting process. This means that, although we are very excited about the proposal, the project will not be underway until it gains official approval. We will continue to update the student body as we receive more information.
We have taken great steps to promote the interests of Rochester students in our collaboration with construction officials, and look forward to doing more great things with Campus Planning, Design & Construction Management in the future.
Thanks so much,
Senator, Class of 2016
