A Note from Bradley and Rohini
Students’ Association President and Vice President
Hi Yellowjackets,
This year has sure flown by, but we're not done yet! While our administration still has numerous plans for the month of April, one of the most important includes transitioning to next year's leadership after elections. It's that time of year again: would you like to get involved? Elections are right around the corner, and running to be a Senator is a great way to start. Check out this month's Rocky's Report Video for more information about what SA Government actually does. If you're interested in promoting spirit within your class, we recommend that you consider running for Class Council. Come to our final interest meeting in the Gowen Room of Wilson Commons on Friday, March 30th at 3:00 p.m. if you would like to find out more about any positions. While attending is an important first step for all interested in running, you can find more information about the process on the Vote website.
Get Involved: Elections are here! Find out more...
If you can't make it tomorrow, email Elections Chair Becky Donnelly to meet with her. In addition to elections, we are now accepting applications for the City Cycles Coordinator position on a rolling basis, so apply quickly if you're interested. City Cycles aims to promote bicycling as an attractive and sustainable mode of transportation for the University of Rochester community, and running the program is an excellent entrepreneurial opportunity.
Apply Now or find out more about City Cycles...
Finally, as we look at the tremendous variety of events and performances coming up in the next month, we are reminded of one topic that is always on our minds: how fortunate we are to have such a diverse array of interests and cultures at the UR. We would like to challenge you to check out a new event or try a new experience that challenges you in this last month of the academic year. If you find something cool, let us know!
As always, feel free to contact us if you have any ideas, questions, or comments. Have a great April,
– Bradley & Rohini
News From The Senate
Technology Projects
The Projects & Services Committee has been working to renovate two locations on campus. Over Spring Break, University Facilities installed power outlets for more than 225 seats in Rush Rhees Library thanks to a partnership with the River Campus Libraries. These outlets are accessible at all study tables in the Messinger Periodical Reading Room, the Great Hall, the main study area of the 3rd-floor yellow stacks, and at two large study tables on the first floor near the Friedlander Lobby. More outlets may be added in the future. Also, this summer, URWireless internet access points will be installed in Wilder and Anderson Towers. Once complete, all residential buildings except those on the Fraternity Quad will have wireless Internet access in accordance with our 2008 URWireless Proposal (PDF). For information about other technology initiatives, you can browse this year's IT Summit Report. Check out http://sa.rochester.edu/projects/ for more.
Mid-Year Reports
SA Government surveys and evaluates our 200+ SA Organizations annually via the Mid-Year Report. We aim to make this reflection easy and meaningful. Last month, all groups turned in their completed reports, and the Policy & Review Committee looks forward to returning MYR grades to all organizations in the second week of April. We were very pleased this year with the steps forward that many organizations have taken, and we encourage any groups with questions or seeking tips to contact Shilpa Topudurti.
A New Level of Fiscal Transparency
Inline with our pledge to you to ensure transparency of Student Activities Fee finances, the SA President and Senate will be publishing information about the full Students' Association budget later this month. This week all SA-Funded organizations received feedback on their budgets, and after an opportunity to appeal the Appropriations Committee's decisions, the Senate will vote to approve the budget next month.
Dandelion Day: Coming soon!
While you have probably heard that Dandelion Day is changing this year, you probably don't know about many of the new and exciting activities that will accompany this favorite UR tradition. Stay tuned next week to the Hive at sa.rochester.edu for some big announcements from the Campus Activities Board! More details about the celebration will be unveiled every Friday from now until Dandelion Day- Friday, April 27, 2012. If you have any questions, contact CAB President Palida Noor.
