Rocky's Report

A Note from Bradley and Rohini
Your Students’ Association President and Vice President

Rocky’s Report Video Tour of the Hive

Incase you haven’t heard it enough, welcome back to campus! We hope you’ve enjoyed your first days of class. For those who don’t know, Rocky’s Report is a monthly eNewsletter filled with the latest news from SA Government. Our whole team was hard at work over the summer, and there are lots of exciting updates coming soon that we can’t wait to tell you about. When the time comes, this is the place to learn about them.

We have spent a lot of time benchmarking policies in the student code of conduct, and also analyzing our own governance procedures for student organizations. As we do so, transparency is always a chief priority. We are pleased to launch two new communication strategies today:

  • Rocky’s Report Videos: Every edition of Rocky’s Report will now feature a video, offering a more dynamic view of the month’s top stories. This month we’re trying it out, with a video tour of the Hive. Watch it now...
  • Initiatives Dashboard: This new page tracks our progress on all projects. This will do more than keep students informed – it will also hold us accountable for making due on our promises. See what we’re up to…

Get Involved
We can’t do this on our own; if you’re looking for a fun way to meet students and administrators while impacting your campus community, consider applying for SA Government. The application is brief, and the possibilities are endless.

News from the Senate

New Dining Experience
A lot of upgrades were made to the dining facilities and meal plans. Now that you’ve had some time to adjust to everything, let us know what you think by leaving feedback on the Hive.

Construction of New Residence Building
Ground broke on construction of the new and much-needed residence hall in the Towers complex this morning. Scheduled to be opened for Fall 2012, the five-story, 148-room residence building plan includes a combination of singles, doubles, and adjoining doubles catering sophomore, juniors and seniors. Find more information about the new residence hall here.

URWireless Now Available in Hill Court
Thanks to the dedication of Dean Feldman, the College, and University IT, URWireless is continuing to expand as proposed by the 2009 SA Wireless Expansion Proposal (PDF). This summer, URWireless coverage was added to Hill Court Residence Halls, also known as Phase. We hope to see additional network expansion this year in public areas of the River Campus.

Housing Lottery Feedback
The Projects & Services Committee is currently seeking feedback on the housing lottery process. Given the complexity of the current process, and the addition of Riverview three years ago and the new building mentioned above, we plan to work with Residential Life to ensure that the system is fair, logical, and as simple as possible. If you have comments, please let us know.
