  1. Douglas Moorefield says:

    Greetings,
My name is Douglas Moorefield, but everyone calls me by my nickname Mirlin.

I am very interested in serving in some capacity in the Student Association in Fall of 2012. I am an incoming transfer student. I graduated with an A.A. in Liberal Arts & Science – Social Science from Finger Lakes Community College and an A.S. in Liberal Arts & Science – General Studies from Monroe Community College. My GPA at MCC was 3.54 and my GPA at FLCC is 3.68.

At MCC I served at the Damon Campus as Civic Engagements Coordinator for the Student Events and Governance Association in 2009. At the Brighton Campus, I served as Media Senator, Vice-Speaker of the Senate and eventually Speaker of the Senate. I also was Chair of the Media Committee and organized a Media Fair involving all of the campus’ media organizations and clubs as well as local media radio stations and television. I also served on the MCC Foundation Committee as a student representative. I was active in the American Students Association of Community Colleges and was New York State Coordinator for a time. I also represented MCC at the SUNY Student Assembly in spring 2010.

Later at FLCC, I became Vice-Chair of the Student Corporation Senate, served on the College Council as a student representative, founded and was first President of the History Club at FLCC, was active in the Wildlife Society and have served as Secretary of the Alpha Epsilon Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Currently I am employed as a Work Study Aide for the Community Affairs department at FLCC. In August I will start classes at the University of Rochester as a Junior and I will be majoring in history.

I am an older student. I started community college at age 41 and I am currently 44. I am the father of a beautiful 22 year old daughter and my grandson will be four-years old on August 18th.

I am looking forward to being a student at U of R and hopefully I can find some way to serve the student body there. Please let me know if there is anyway I can be part of the Student Association at the University of Rochester.

    Sincerely,
    Mirlin Moorefield
