Upon returning this year to school many Juniors and Seniors became pioneers in a new and exciting journey, a journey across the river, over the bridge and to our new, beautiful apartment complex of Riverview. Not only is this a journey of independence for many students, as they venture into luxurious apartment style living; it is also a journey into a world largely unknown and unexplored so far by the University of Rochester community: the 19th ward. As we enjoy the privilege of the being the first ever residents of Riverview, with our freshly painted walls, our personal bathrooms, and our spacious living areas, we must also embrace the responsibility of making our first impressions of the University of Rochester student in the 19th ward community.
What we do and how we interact with our new neighbors will help to shape our relationship with the surrounding community for years to come. With this adventure comes an opportunity to truly make a difference both in the community and at the University. As a Riverview student and as someone who has been committed to improving the relationship between the University of Rochester and the city of Rochester, I look forward to seeing University of Rochester students become the good neighbors that we can and should be to our friends in the 19th ward.

AlertUR, the emergency notification system to inform undergraduates if dangerous situations are in progress, will begin a test at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. The system is tested once each semester to check its capabilities and remind students to update their information. Please go to www.rochester.edu/alertur, log in with your NetID, and fill in or change your emergency contacts. When the test message comes through on Oct. 1, no response is needed. (Please note that text messages will be delivered more quickly than voice messages.)
Thanks!
Fellow students,
Over the past several days, many of you have inquired – and many more of you have heard – about an incident that transpired at a Senior Night event last Thursday, and the subsequent fallout from the incident. Rumours and misinformation have been pervading some of the conversations across the campus among members of the student body. I hope this email will bring some of the facts to light in the days following the incident in question.
At last night’s Senate meeting, the elections results were certified. The following are the new Class of 2012 Senators:

Dan Cohn
Megan Dewitt
Sneha Rath
Their contact information is currently listed on the Senate webpage (http://sa.rochester.edu/sa/?page_id=4). Their pictures will appear as soon as they are available. Congratulations again!
There are always “essential” experiences of any place you’ll visit. Since you’ll call Rochester home for (hopefully) the next four years, you’ll have a chance to do some great things. This is a list of seven things I think are totally worth it. Of course, the list should be seen as a jumping off point, and feel free to add your own ideas into the comments section!
1) Eat a Nick Tahou’s Garbage Plate. There will be those who will tell you there are better places to eat garbage plates, or that eating garbage plates are gross. Those people are wrong. Nick Tahou’s is the original, and they are delicious, you simply need to know what you are getting yourself into.
