Why did you become a Pride Network Officer?
In high school, I was one of a few openly gay people. Seeing a need for a supportive atmosphere, I formed my high school's Gay-Straight Alliance. When I came to Rochester, I saw there was the long-standing Pride Network and aimed to become a part of it. Being an officer is my way of aiding LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) students. The LGBT community has been very good to me, and I am delighted to give back by helping out queer organizations such as Pride Network and the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley. Live loud, live proud!

What are your goals for Pride Network? I want pride to provide an inviting atmosphere for people of all orientations and identities, and offer a variety of meeting topics that cover things interesting to the members.I'd like to see us maintain our inclusiveness and further embrace allies. Additionally, I hope that we can continue our push for full marriage equality, and improve our service to the student body. In particular, the resource center would be a great addition to student support. Overall, the past year has been exciting, and I'm eager to see what develops this time around.

How do you think members will benefit out of Pride Network and its meetings? Pride Network had it's first meeting as the Gay Liberation Front on October 3, 1970, and since then it has proved to be a long-lasting component of student life. Our talks and events provide a safe place for LGBT students, encourage a sense of community, and promote awareness of society and the political landscape. Plus, we like to have fun. The Drag Show and Big Gay Party we have every semester are well-attended and very loud.

A random fact about you since we have the space I have been a vegan since junior year, which means I try to avoid eating or using animal products, including meat, dairy, leather, and wool. It also means that I practically live at Douglass' Vegan Zone and have yet to buy a sweater. Brrr.
