UR Interfaith Chapel

We Need Your Help

Dear Friends of the PCC,
As one of the newer PCC alumni, I count myself especially blessed to know so many of you, and to have seen God’s Spirit at work in your midst. Important elements of our faith and character were shaped by the hand of God at work amidst the PCC’s church on campus. Life-long friendships, and a surprising number of marriages, were formed in this lively community of faith. Lives on and off campus were changed by God through the PCC’s worship, community, and service to others.

A response of faith is to give something of ourselves. Deborah and I continue to give in support of the PCC, even though I have been called to serve God elsewhere. I urge each of you to join us in giving to the PCC at greater levels, because now the PCC desperately needs more of our support than ever to continue the great work of the Spirit which blessed each of us in our years there.

Keep in mind that the U. of R. does not provide the PCC Chaplain, only space in the Chapel and access to the students. Church denominations who once provided most of the funding for our Chaplain and the PCC no longer have the means, so it is now up to us. Will you join me in this challenge?

This Fall semester the PCC issued God’s call to a gifted new Chaplain, The Rev. Dr. Laurie Tiberi. Laurie took a leap of faith in coming to serve the PCC, bringing with her many gifts with which to serve. Please match Laurie’s faith with your generosity.

Blessings & peace,
Greg

From Our Treasurer

One of the reasons why campus ministry is important is due to the context in which it occurs. College students are at a point in life where they form lifelong relationships, consider their vocation, choose their commitments, and decide if they are going to make room in busy schedules for a spiritual life. It is of great consequence to have a pastoral presence and a faith community available during these periods for both discernment and support. For decades Genesee Area Campus Ministries has provided a spiritual center on campus where Protestant students could grow in both faith and service. Unfortunately, this esteemed organization is financially vulnerable due to a long term decline in funding by our sponsoring denominations.

The major challenge of funding campus ministry is that neither the students who benefit directly nor their parents are in a position to contribute significantly toward the ministry’s costs. While student’s fund-raising and a few parent’s contributions are happily received, they don’t get the job done. None of the five sponsoring denominations are as well-off financially as they used to be, and have cut campus ministry accordingly. So it is up to you - alumni and friends of the Protestant Chapel Community to make sure this important ministry continues. GACM’s ministries, which include one full time and two part time chaplains have been funded in recent years on a budget of just over $60,000. That low level of funding does not allow for adequate salaries or programming funds. Please write a check today and make Genesee Area Campus Ministries one of the charities you support on an ongoing basis.
