Rape and sexual assault are major problems in the world today. Every minute in the United States, 1.3 women are raped. This adds up to 1,871 rapes every day, and 683,000 rapes every year. Unfortunately, men are the aggressors in the majority of these occurences. It is time for us to do something to decrease these numbers. With this in mind, we, the Men Against Sexual Assault members on the University of Rochester campus, are asking you to electronically sign the following pledge to do everything possible to decrease the number of rapes which happen in the US and around the world.

I pledge to:

  • Not commit rape or acts of sexual violence.
  • Respect a woman's right to say no, and listen when she does.
  • Never put the blame on the woman, no matter how she was dressed, where she was or how much she had to drink, etc.
  • Ask if I am unsure of what a woman wants.
  • Never think that a woman owes a man sex under any circumstances.
  • Keep the lines of communication about rape and sexual assault open at all times.
  • Take responsibility for my actions.
