- Exceptions will be made for senior honor theses (note: these submissions will be subject to revision).
- No more than 5000 words.
- jur is a cross disciplinary journal for undergraduates. The submissions must be readable by undergraduates at The College; there should be as little technical jargon as possible. If necessary, explain any concepts that are critical to the understanding of the article, but may not be common knowledge. Scientific articles should read more like Scientific American articles.
Article Guidelines:
(adapted from MIT Undergraduate Research Journal MURJ)- General introduction to the subject and what is interesting or important about it; also indicate the central problem/question to be addressed in the report.
- Provide a review of literature. What research set the precedent for your investigation?
- Describe your approach to the problem (you should not detail experimental protocols); what are the advantages and powers of the techniques you used or the design you proposed; what are the disadvantages or controversies involved, if any? (This would replace the "materials and methods" section of a standard report).
- Explain your results and discuss their implications (Rather than detailing every aspect of your statistical number-crunching, stress the actual implications of your results. You do not need to separate the results and discussion sections, but use your own discretion to organize your discussion. Remember that your audience is most interested in the conclusions that you draw).
- What questions are left unanswered? What future research will be conducted on this topic?
- Cite some further reading for students interested in this topic
- The article must follow the jur reference guidelines (Sample)
