Sustainability is fundamental and inescapable. It means to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet its own needs; it is responsibility to a triple bottom line of social, economic, and environmental stability. In this framework the University of Rochester Sustainable Campuses Initiative is striving to establish new tools by which the University can measure adherence to its motto: Meliora- Always Better. Without hindering current pursuits, we hope to establish innovative routes for collaboration and creativity between facilities and academics, students and their community.
