Welcome to UR Recyclemania!
Recyclemania is a ten-week competition between colleges and universities nationwide trying to maximize the efficiency of their recycling programs. The competition started in 2001 – a head to head competition between Ohio University and Miami University of Ohio – and has grown exponentially since then, this year including 201 schools across the country. The count begins January 27!
This is UR’s second year participating and we’re going after the Per Capita Classic trophy: we’ll be comparing our recycling output with other schools’ – per capita. We’re on an equal playing field with much larger schools, measuring the average of how much each student on campus recycles.
The main goal of Recyclemania in general and UR’s campaign in particular is to raise awareness among students and staff and to make recycling a more visible and integral part of UR’s growing commitment to campus sustainability.
For more information about the competition and its history, visit www.recyclemania.org.
If you want to help make Recyclemania awesome, email Alexandra Beren or come to one of the two weekly Recyclemania meeting. One is Monday during the regular Grassroots meeting, and one is Thursday at 6:30, at Douglass!
