About UsMission StatementGrassroots is the U of R environmental action and awareness group. We strive to act on behalf of a sustainable future and to raise awareness of our collective and individual responsibilities as stewards of the Earth. Goals, Meetings and ActivitiesGrassroots uses the individual gifts and passions of its diverse membership to design a variety of programs and campaigns that encourage awareness and action on behalf of our natural environment within the U of R and Greater Rochester communities. One guiding goal of the 2008-2009 academic year is the encouragement of a university-wide sustainability initiative, to uphold our university’s motto of Meliora, “Always Better.” We will support this by encouraging more organic and local food offerings by Dining Services, advocacy for increased environmental consideration in the curriculum, Recyclemania and UR Unplugged, development of projects yet to be developed in our members’ minds. Ongoing programs include a monthly Clothing Exchange, promotion of and education about the campus recycling standard, encouragement to save energy in the dormitories, awareness on bottled water and participation in the Graduation Pledge Alliance. Grassroots will organize and expand on the incredible success of Earth Day celebration and sponsor a variety of speakers and off-campus trips. Executive BoardCo-President:
