University of Rochester
Community Service Network

About Us

Our Mission

CSN serves as an umbrella organization to network all parties involved to provide the most effective and beneficial service. In addition to developing service opportunities, CSN seeks to raise awareness of community issues through regular events and projects throughout the year. The goal is to give students a context to frame their service and to help the university population to recognize the challenges faced by their own Rochester community, as well as the many positive attributes Rochester has to offer, and ultimately to foster long-term engagement and a sense of commitment.

Students:

  • Provide information on a wide variety of non-profit agencies and both ongoing and one-time volunteer opportunities in Rochester
  • Guide students in finding and applying for volunteer opportunities, and in safe and effective community service
  • Provide resources on different facets of community service and leadership, including informational and awareness-raising events and campaigns, books, pamphlets, websites, and videos
  • Connect students with other individuals and/or groups already serving the community
  • Address any issues that come up during the course of service.

Student groups:

  • Connect groups to local agencies in search of volunteers
  • Help recruit volunteers for group projects
  • Network between student groups in promoting service projects
  • All the services offered to individual students.

Local agencies:

  • Advertise information about the agency and the volunteer opportunities that are available to students, groups, faculty, and staff through website postings and emails
  • Help set up service projects and opportunities with groups and/or individuals
  • Address any issues with student volunteers should they arise
