Mentoring
Outreach Tutoring
On Saturday mornings throughout the semester, CDrew members pair up with UR medical students to tutor local at-risk elementary school students. This is a great way to get involved with the community, help kids, and share your passion for learning. Although this is an ongoing community service effort, it offers great flexibility with commitment. Please contact the Mentoring Chairperson, Katsia Pleshankova, if you are interested in participating. Check back for dates, times, and locations.
Professional Shadowing
CDrew will provide a list of professionals in the healthcare field willing to be shadowed. Please contact these professionals directly (with the information provided) to set up a session.
A few helpful hints for your shadowing session:
- Use professional language in all correspondence. E-mail slang is not appropriate.
- Dress professionally.
- Have a firm handshake.
- Come prepared with a list of questions to ask when you have the opportunity.
- Read some of the professional's published work (if any) and be prepared to refer to it.
- Smile and look interested. Use engaged body language.
- Afterwords, send a sincere "Thank You" note. Post is better than e-mail.
