Mu Lambda Chapter Requirements and Activities

The brothers of our chapter complete a few simple requirements to continue their activity. These are:

Service Hours

Each active brother does the same number of service hours, as suggested by the VP of Service and approved by the majority vote of chapter. Usually this is 25 hours per semester. Eight of these can be done personally, without the chapter.

Brothers who wish to participate in Alpha Phi Omega but who can not meet the service requirements (or any of the others) can become an "associate" brother, a program we have found to be helpful in allowing very busy students to remain active.

The VP of Service and her/his committee sets up service projects with on and off-campus groups, such as Strong Hospital, YMCA, Sojourner House, Genessee Valley Park, etc. Each brother can choose which projects to sign up for.

Some service projects are set up by the VP of Scouting and involve either the Boy Scouts or the Girl Scouts. Scouting ties are maintained by many chapters, and ours was rechartered by a group of Eagle Scouts. Alpha Phi Omega is a great opportunity to continue activity in scouting.

Fellowships

Fellowships are fun get-togethers to keep the brothers in touch. They are not required but are scheduled so that as many brothers can attend as possible. We meet for dinner or lunch on-campus, go out to eat or dance or even play mini-golf.

Meetings

Brothers are required to attend weekly chapter meetings, but several excused absences are allowed. Brothers are also asked to sit on smaller committees, which meet a few times a month. Associate brothers may have a more lenient attendance requirement, depending on their schedule.

Dues

Dues for active brothers were $55 a semester as of Spring 2008. This money goes towards national dues as well as service project and fellowship supplies, such as food and gas money. This requirement may be altered for associate brothers.
